BREATHING IN COLOUR AND MUSIC

Katharina Dustmann was born in Bad Oeynhausen in 1965 and grew up in the North German countryside behind the dykes. She is a versatile and renowned artist who has been working as a freelance artist since 1983. Her art is based on a neurological phenomenon that can be traced back to synesthesia. In this state, in which she combines different sensory perceptions, she creates music and works of art that result in a very sensual and intuitive form of expression and move between different media such as painting, photography, music and multimedia installations. Her special ability to interweave visual and auditory elements gives her works a unique dimension and emotional depth.

Her artistic path began in 1986 with training as a sound engineer, with a focus on audio in the field of art, media and communication.

In 1989 she founded the film and sound studio "Studio Katharco GbR". Since then she has worked continuously on the fusion of image and music, especially for large interdisciplinary, multimedia light and sound productions, music theater productions and film projects, both at home and abroad.

As a musician, she has specialized in Mediterranean percussion such as the classic Persian Zarb, the Turkish Darbuka and various frame drums, such as the Italian Tamburello.

As an actress, she completed a theater training in mask theater and Commedia dell'Arte in 1994. There she also made films, created photos, designed stage sets, costumes and masks, and combined all of this with music and arts and crafts. Her works have shone on stages and in prestigious venues such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie Cologne, the Konzerthaus Hamburg, Berlin and Vienna.

Since 1996, Katharina Dustmann has dedicated herself to spatially dynamic light and sound art, transforming interiors, natural spaces and architecture into a fascinating interplay of music, film and sound compositions. Her projects have been implemented for well-known institutions and events such as Euroga 2000 , Gasometer.

In 2018, Katharina Dustmann ventured into new creative territory: KLANGBILDER/SOUND OF COLORS. This is a painting accompanied by specially composed music that is recorded in the recording studio and together forms a total work of art.
This synesthetic art form opens up new possibilities for viewing and interpreting its works and blurs the boundaries between the senses.

In her latest series "Where the light lives in the water", Katharina Dustmann shows the subtle relationships between light and water and once again presents herself as a pioneer in the field of abstract art. Her pictorial masterpieces, designed on extraordinary carrier plates, provoke a unique sensory perception and revolutionize our ideas of beauty and artistry.

Katharina Dustmann is undoubtedly a pioneer in the world of abstract art and an artist who challenges the senses and constantly redefines our ideas of beauty and art. Her works are a feast for the eyes and ears and a source of inspiration for those who wish to delve into the world of abstract photography and painting.
